Dylan’s GOLF GTI

Now when you talk about hot hatches NZFC can definitely can deliver a few. Introducing a performance car with practicality of being a race car.

Name: Dylan Johnson

Age: 19

What do you do in your spare time: Do a bit of work on my car where possible, work on mate’s cars when they need a hand, go on cruises and do photo shoots/filming, pretty much anything car-related.
How long have you owned the car for? And how long have you been ‘building’ it for: Owned the car for 3 years now, got the car just before I got my learners. Started doing small stuff to the car around a year ago and pretty much have been doing more and more stuff over the course of time.
Why did you choose this specific car? My mom’s boyfriend had a mk5 gti, felt so nice to drive, handled pretty well and had a decent amount of power for what it was. I ended up buying one for myself based on my experience when I drove it.

Gearbox: Stock DSG 6 speed

Exterior: Aftermarket R32 fibreglass rear bumper, 3 inch non catted downpipe, with a custom 3 inch catback exhaust set up
Interior: DSG Paddle shifter extensions, 52mm boost gauge, 52mm oil temp gauge
ICE: Fusion 900W amp with a 12 inch Fusion box and a 12 inch 1800W Sony Xplod subwoofer
Power: Current bolt on mods, roughly 220hp atw
What were your initial plans with the car versus where you are now:
Never had any intentions of fully building the car and even after the ‘first stage’ of the build there is more to come as I would like to run a Garrett turbo and turn the golf into a street/track car. Originally I only wanted to go to ‘stage 2+’ which was around the 280hp mark but now that’s changed completely.
Have you taken it on track? Weather it be Hampton or Merememe or whatever track. What were your times: Actually I haven’t been on track yet. Have my eyes set on clubfest 2020 at Hampton’s.
What’s next for you and the car?

These are my intentions at the moment, have already gotten majority of the parts and tuning, building and machining side of things sorted. Later on down the line will be the ‘stage 2’ of the build where i’ll build the car for around the 500hp mark.
Who would you like to thank?
Would like to thank the team at A Little Tuning and Integrated Engineering for helping me supply the parts for the build, the guys at Pioneer Autohaus for looking after me for the engine build and TVS for the DSG tuning side of things.
How would you describe NZFC?
NZFC is like a family in a way, supporting in caring in every aspect and they look after you really well. Couldn’t ask for a better car club to be a part of.
With that said we hope Dylan keeps pushing his car to limits. Building cars aint that easy but with commitment it’s possible enough.Good luck!!
