Nishant’s Nissan R34 GTR

When you talk about JDM Legends afew cars come to mind. One being Nissan’s all mighty GTR! From the first generation Hako to the current commonly known as R35 GTR. All generations have written themselves into the history books. But for today, we are going to be talking about Nishant’s Beautiful Nissan Skyline R34 GTR.

Nishant being no stranger to his Nissans, he’s had quite a few cars under his belt. His first car being a 1998 Skyline Coupe (RB25DE), after that he caught the Honda bug getting a Prelude, EG Civic, DC2 Integra Type R and FD2R Civic Type R. No doubt he has great taste in cars. But Nissan is where his heart belongs, he also currently owns a R32 Skyline M-Spec, might I add owned for 15+ years! Which is also tastefully modified.  But enough small talk let’s get down to the JDM icon, The R34 GTR.

He was as kind as to answer a few questions for us about his Dream Car.

What made you fall in love with GTR’s?

It was 1999, back home in Fiji, a 14 year old me went to visit a friend back home who had just been gifted a Sony PlayStation with the newly released Gran Turismo 2. This also happens to be the first year R34 GTR’s were first released. I spend a lot of time playing Gran Turismo 2 and the R34 in the game was the best car you could have. This is when the dream of wanting to own one began. After we moved to NZ back in 2002, I used to see the odd R32/R33 GTR on the street but it was car shows where I finally got to see my first ever R34 GTR and I told myself that day that I will own one, one day.

How did you find your GTR?

On TradeMe, doing the usual search for R34 GTR’s.

What were you looking for when you were on the search?

Like most car enthusiasts, I would search for R34 GTR’s for sale on TradeMe for years, just to see what they were selling for and dream of owning one. Fast forward a number of years and the same search returned a white R34 GTR V-Spec for sale at a dealer, By now, R34 GTR’s were becoming relatively rare and the prices were also going up scarily fast so it was a “make it happen now or forever give up the dream of owning one”. After a quick discussion with my better half, I made a phone call to the dealer the next day to inquire about the car. After speaking with the dealer and finding out more details, it turned out that the car was a very low KM example with an entire service history (which was done at the Omori Factory in Japan ONLY) and it was a 1 owner car.

What are some of the current modifications and what is your end goal?

The car had already been tastefully modified by the 1 owner it had back in Japan but I have since added a few things to add my personal touch. Short term plans are to get the power level of the car to the 400kw mark until I can save up funds to build a new motor. Currently undecided but long term goals will be to go with a 2.8l or 3.2l stroker motor but the goal will be 1000hp+. I am a huge fan of the factory styling of skylines so I plan on staying true to this with a few personal touches to give it that OEM+ look. Stay tuned!

Thanks Nishant for taking the time out to answer afew questions for us.

You do have a rare car indeed Nishant, not many people can say that their GTR has made a visit to the Omori Factory in Japan! It is also fair to say that most boys have had their first taste of the GTR in Gran Turismo, and it’s really just snow balled from there. I’m sure 400kw will make for an awesome street car! As for 1000HP, our friends across the ditch have quite a few of those, so it’s exciting to see those big HP GTRs starting to pop up here in little New Zealand. We are loving what you’ve done with the car, and we are most definitely looking forward to seeing how this JDM Legend turns out in your hands Nishant!
